I was in south Florida for Hurricane Andrew. Total devistation. We took a ride down to Homestead a few days after and there were communities where you did not see one roof left. It might sound a little insane, but I would still rather live in the warmth of the south even with the threat of a hurricane than up here with the snow and sleet storms any day.
Can you say Halleluya!!!!!!! Lots of great food, music and atmosphere. Well, today is my birthday. I love the guy and he is mostly a sweetheart, but Geez! Life is good. Happy Anniversary, as well. Perhaps you should have THIS blaring when he comes home. Sometimes those scales are a real curse……….. Buffett never owned any of the Flora Bama. Now I am 30 and will be going back to P-cola for Aircraft fire fighting school, and I am a huge Parrothead. I lived in Ft.
Walton and made it to the Mullet Toss several times. I am thankful that they were able to recover from the storm. Plan to be there again soon. Another team mate and I played this song constantly, day in and day out. It was played on the way to games, practices, tournaments, and everything else. We played it before our games, during, and after. She and I loved that song: every minute of it. She was in Flordia not too long ago and she was at the FloraBama and called me saying she had finally found the place.
Thank you Jimmy Buffet for the production of this song and to you LuLu for having your eatery because I absolutely love it. You get on 59 to the Beach and take a left on the Beach Highway. On the right. I grew up in Pensacola. Nice peace, just wish there were more accuracies in the content.
Oh yeah, and Katrina barely skinned New Orleans compared to the devastation it caused in South Mississippi and even further South Louisiana. We saw the FloraBama a couple of months after most of it was destroyed. Louis, Mississippi, another popular beach bar, that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in There is an infamous honky-tonk down the street from my home in Perdido Key, Florida called the Flora-Bama.
The name of the bar comes from the fact that half of it sits in the state of Florida, while the other half sits in the state of Alabama. Its reputation and legacy are legendary to us coastal bar crawlers. During the day, all ages are welcome at the main Flora-Bama bar and restaurant complex on the Gulf side, but after 6 p. They are filmed partying, working, living in a new environment, and bonding. The country singer also extended the sentiment to city, county and state leaders leading up to his concert at Flora-Bama.
I was later told that in the studio they cut two versions of the song. No one knew which version he decided to go with until the album was released. When it came time to shoot the video, I was coincidentally in New Orleans when Jimmy called and asked if I wanted to play the part of the bar owner. At the end of the day I was grateful to be traveling back to LA Lower Alabama and my day job behind a stove instead of in front of a camera!
To memorialize my brief moment of fame, I decided to create a specialty drink called The Bama Breeze. Put 2 lime wedges in the bottom of a metal cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup, vodka, and run.
Muddle gently, avoiding the lime rinds, which can add a bitter taste. Fill the shaker with ice and cranberry juice. Pour the mixture back and forth between the shaker and a large mixing glass a few times. Pour the drink into a glass, add a straw, garnish with a lime wedge.
