The comics community has already seen how Archie Comics has evolved, but Riverdale will expose the new Archie brand to a significantly larger audience. Hopefully it will also lead more people to the inventive work being done on the page, which embraces new creative perspectives and a wider variety of stylistic influences to showcase the unrealized potential of this year-old comic book institution.

This first search engine had nothing to do with the interactive interfaces we know. On the contrary, its interface was a simple landing page with a few search parameters. However, as a curiosity, it has often been associated with the Archie comics.
In fact, this association served as an inspiration for naming some search engines that came after it: Jughead and Veronica. In short, Archie was created as an index of FTP files. It allowed users to look around the Internet. But it had limited functionalities; especially when compared to current search engines. So, the first search engine basically was an FTP where users could make simple requests for searching files ; which they had to download in order to see if it really was what they were looking for.
Therefore, users had to know the title of the file or carefully choose the term to find what they wanted. The ability to index the content inside the files was first introduced by Gopher. Archie consists of a set of computers on the Internet that continually search all the anonymous FTP sites around the world and then compile the results into a single searchable database.
By that I mean not only the balance of power between the all-powerful Google algorithm and the websites that live or die by its graces, but also, the balance of power between search and the searcher. As Krajewsk i points out in an article inspired by the name of the former AskJeeves search engine, the servant-master metaphor can help us understand where the power lies in a Google search:.
If the servant knows more than the master and the insider information is suited to the subordinates, then who rules whom?
In the case of Google or Askjeeves this question was resolved long ago: presumably no one would claim to be the master when entering a query into the user interface of a search engine. If what matters in the relation ship between user and search engine is information analysis, preparation, and distribution, then the power has long since passed to the master of things, and that is unquestionably the servant.
In , The National Science Teache r reported on a study that:. In a related vein, Sparrow et al. As they note:. We are seldom offline unless by choice, and it is hard to remember how we found information before the Internet became a ubiquitous presence in our lives.
The Internet, with its search engines such as Google and databases such as IMDB and the information stored there, has become an external memory source that we can access at any time.
