While still just a rumor, the series has a die-hard fan base who are itching for more Dead Space content, so a fourth entry in the franchise would most likely go over really well.
After a somewhat disappointing finale in the third game, the rumored Dead Space 4 might come out to right some of the wrongs of the previous entry and bring the series back into relevancy. There are a few ways the game could go, but hopefully whatever studio is working on the game is looking to the series' past for inspiration and guidance.
Here's what should be included if Dead Space 4 is truly in the works. Unitology, the religion that worships the Markers and serves as one of the antagonistic entities in the Dead Space series, is one of the most interesting aspects of Dead Space as a whole. There's plenty to unpack in the series, but understanding Unitology and its rich lore is something that plenty of players looked forward to in each subsequent entry in the franchise.
On the surface, the Church of Unitology seems to be full of religious fanatics who have no interest in listening to reason, but looking deeper into its lore through audio logs and journal entries scattered throughout the Dead Space games, players can begin to understand the religion's history, hierarchy, and secrets that make it so appealing to the regular person.
Convincing people that turning into monstrous alien zombies is a good thing seems like a tricky task, but the religion's connection to the alleged alien creators of humanity begins to provide some answers that many are looking for.
The existential need for answers that lives in a lot of people is something that the Dead Space series has started exploring but Dead Space 4 could go all out and dive even deeper into Unitology lore. This means that a Dead Space remake would contain the obvious graphical updates, but also build upon the best parts of the original game while discarding that which did not work as well. We could look at the Resident Evil 3 remake of as a template. There, Capcom made the conscious decision to cut certain content, characters, and modes from the game, but at the same time, they fleshed out and expanded upon other original concepts.
In the original game from , for example, the last two fights with the Nemesis were too much like previous engagements, and overall non-threatening and subpar conclusions to such a menacing opponent. On the other hand, the remake of saw both new interpretations for both of those encounters that felt far more epic in size and threat, even if the final fight was extremely overturned on Nightmare and Inferno. It also led to the aforementioned shift in the next two Dead Space titles, which — as mentioned — weren't as well received.
Visceral worked on a few other games over the years, including Dante's Inferno and Battlefield: Hardline. The Dead Space franchise, however, was never seen or heard from again. EA shut down Visceral Games in after several failed projects, including the infamous open world Star Wars title that never was. Since Visceral is dead, the Dead Space franchise likely is, as well. Dead Space lost its way. Pyramid Head haunts Dead by Daylight in new costume.
